White Spots on Your Nails

White spots are a common occurrence, typically caused by injuries to the nail bed.

But did you know that throughout history, they have been attributed to everything from telling lies to having a new love in your life?

They have even been used as a fortune-telling device! Fortune-tellers of olden days would sing the following rhyme while counting the spots: A gift, a ghost, a friend, a foe, a letter to come, a journey to go.

Folklore aside, these spots have also been known to occur when the body has low levels of zinc.

Good food sources of zinc include beef, lamb, pork, turkey, chicken, and salmon. Vegetarians may have a lower intake of zinc than omnivores, but can get adequate amounts from peanuts, beans, brown rice, whole grains, and pumpkin seeds. Or you may want to include a daily 15-milligram supplement.

May your day be filled with good-fortune.
